A very recent survey made by NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) states that the college students that are graduated in engineering majors are the most highly paid as compared to other disciplines of college degrees. There are a total of ten major fields that are paid the highest salaries among which the top six belongs to engineering majors. The field at the number 1 position is Computer Engineering that is paid about $70,400. The second highest paying field is chemical engineering with $66,400 per month. The third field with highest salary is Computer science that pays about $64,400. At the fourth position is the astronautical/aeronautical/aerospace engineering that is paid $64,000.
Marilyn Mackes, who is an executive director at NACE, says that this survey in not surprising at all because of the reason that the demands for these graduates is increasing day by day but their supply is very less as compared to the demand.
NACE links the employers with college placement offices. The employer members of this office are basically very large companies. But when the NACE does a survey on salary then they consider the data from other institutes beyond the employer members. Those institutes include Job Search Intelligence and Bureau of Labor Statistics. The data about the salaries is provided by the employers. This salary data is the one that is accepted and not the one that is just offered. The salary data is collected for about more than ninety fields of new college graduates.
Considering the previous salary surveys the engineering degrees were not that dominated as a specific fields. But now the survey completely shows that every engineering discipline has its own importance and has different paying salaries depending upon the increasing demand among the employers. This survey highlights the fact that there is a lot of demand of technical degrees.
