The next generation environmentalists want to communicate in the business language and are interested in partnership with the once-derided companies. Apart from this retaining a healthy and good skepticism is also required by them. The youth of today that is recently getting into the workforce shows a contrasting behavior regarding environmentalism as compared to the forebears.
For good or bad, the new generation environmentalists are showing more interest in chemical companies and want to make partnership with them rather than with the prosecute companies.
This is a true fact that coalition among the corporations and the environmental groups will give a lot of benefit to companies as well as planets bottom lines. Mostly such type of partnerships best serve the purpose of green-washing and remove behaviors like destructive corporate.
Sustainability leaders of the new generation face many challenges among which the major concern is regarding the reality of green partnerships that is either they are genuine or not and have some real meaning and are not just PR stunts.
It is obvious that environmental problems can’t be handled without taking the help of private firms as it will prove to be a serious folly if private industry is not considered. We are use to of living in an environment that contains consequences of bad corporate and uncontrolled consumption of resources. We have accepted the things the way they are rather than helping the environment to make some good changes. So a group of young idealists will prove to be best in this situation that needs a change in the behavior of companies. They will penetrate deep in the companies and will make a difference or a healthy change.
Speaking The Lingo Is Important
Tommy Hayes worked at Environmental Entrepreneurs in the year 2008. E2 is basically a national network that consists of sustainable business leaders. Hayes says that when the economy went deep down then in the overnight discussion the main focus was regarding jobs in Washington DC. In the conversation the vision of business leaders was far good than the typical environmentalists. The arguments put by them were much better, thought provoking and smarter. Their vision about the movement of money and its effect on the environment was much deeper and realistic.
Hayes is 28 now and is studying for a joint-degree at two schools at a time that are Yale School of Management and Yale School of Forestry. His background was basically scientific and getting into a business school was not natural rather he had to left his comfort zone to get into this field. According to him one cannot go through the company’s book thoroughly and then give you the idea about what it says but what makes the difference and is equally important is actually speaking the lingo.
Young Environmentalists and Naïve are considered as synonyms by many people. Similar thoughts are observed in about 350 orgs. Such campaigns try to convince the universities to deprive from the companies of fossil fuels. The supporters of these activities and ideas are trying to link themselves with the condemned trees while the modern activists keep a sound knowledge of investment portfolios and their schools and they are concerned about the rates of return.
The passion of divestment activists is just like their forebears but they are much more clinical in their approach. They are concerned with the circulation of money and a precise report.
Keys Are The Communication And Knowledge
The ability to present a concept makes a huge difference when it is done with the original expertise. Charissa Rujanavech who is a student of master’s at Yale feels that saving the population of wildlife organisms is a very small level effort and is not enough to meet the challenges of the environment that we all are facing at hand. She is now 26 and is studying about life-cycle analysis. She charts the effect of materials, which are produced in the manufacturing of various products, on the environment. She is providing her services as an intern in a well known athletic company and is working in the sustainability department.
According to her when million shoes are made in single day then by managing the waste products produced as a result of manufacturing process, we can make a big change in the environment. It requires a little effort to manage the dispose of toxics etc.
But it is not an easy task to convince the companies to make changes that are even very small. Since the introduction of Green Business Rules the profit scale of bigger corporations has been lessened. She talked to many people of her field and working for the same purpose but realized that such ideas are always being rejected by the authorities.
So the sustainability leaders are required to have great command on the communication skills so that they would be able to present their ideas more convincingly to the higher authorities to make changes in their processes to save the environment.
Esoteric processes and businesses models have been introduced with the collaboration of industrial techniques and green industries. Bonnie Fry-Hemphill says that you must be very good at telling the effective story regarding the working of these environment friendly models and processes. Solar Mosaic says that people know what these things do but you have to explain them in a more convincing way.
Further Hayes explains that informal psychology course has been taught to them at the Business School that reforms their concepts and gives them an ability to reframe their environmental thoughts into an idea that is more appealing for the business minds.
What Actually Matters Is Money!
Applying all these green principles for the betterment of environment does cost some money. There are various green programs that are funded by government, NGO’s and subsidies. Ioby crowd-fund projects are initiated for beautifying the streets and gardens based in New York. Similarly Petri Dish and RocketHub like sites are funded for the sake of environmental and scientific research.
New generation environmentalists have to work hard to get themselves penetrate into the corporate world. The businesses firms are working in a destructive mode for a number of years and the duty of substantial leaders is to make them aware to shape up. They should keep on motivating the larger corporations to save the eco-system.
